      Description

Page loading latency can be reduced through the use of image "sprites". The basic idea of the technique is to pack several individual images into one larger image and use offsets and clipping to display the desired image. This allows a single file to be fetched from the server yet used to display multiple images.

This JIRA isn't for general resource loading; it's specifically for packing many images into one to reduce the number of requests needed for loading component images. It's strictly a performance and not necessary for Google Map or FCKEditor support.
